FarmGate Auctions and Spence Dix & Co conducted this year’s annual Amherst Circuit Weaner Sale on Monday 30 November at Amherst, Willalooka, South Australia with outstanding results.
Around 30 buyers and agents attended in person and more than 150 registered potential buyers bidded and watched online, helping to push the 2,500 strong yarding of quality Angus and Angus cross weaners to an outstanding top sale price of $2,070 knocked down to an online FarmGate bidder, based near Burra in the state’s Mid North.
The top sale price of $2,070 for 42 EU-accredited 2019 drop steers weighing in at 461kg reflected the positive mood and sentiment of both grass finisher and feedlot buyers and represented an unheralded price per kilo of almost $5 for weaner cattle.
In summary 83 yearling steers were sold to $2070, averaging $2030, 1951 weaner steers went to $1885 and averaged $1660 while 531 heifers sold to $1690 and averaged $1389. The sale overall averaged more than $1650/head.
