Goats, goats and more goats! Last week the FarmGate Auctions team held the first of what we are sure will be many interfaced auctions for goats, if the demand on the day is anything to go by.

We had the pleasure of working with Stephen Maunder and Clare Maughan of LRW Rural Pty Ltd, QLD, to showcase the impressive line up of quality goat genetics. Along with two guest auctioneers, Richard Simpson from Simstock and Jack Burgess from GDL Blackall. 

Over 125 people attended the auction in person who also had the chance to hear from top industry leaders on a range of goat topics; from how to incorporate goats into your production system as well as projections on how the industry can progress with the right genetics.

Participating online via FarmGate Auctions were 82 potential buyers from a geographic spread ranging from Aramac (QLD) to Albury (NSW) and everywhere else in between. Proving that selling livestock online offers an even broader reach than a traditional ‘single selling centre’.

The sale showcased 127 of the very best of stud and commercial bucks and does with an impressive lineup of 73 lots. Throughout the auction there were 280+ bids logged resulting in a staggering clearance rate of 86%! 

Auction Highlights:

• Top price for the auction went to a 2yr old standard Boer stud buck, bred by Graham Reimers of Farmworld Boer Goats, Maryvale QLD,  which made an astonishing $4,000
• The highest price does, Lot 7 and Lot 9, sold for a well deserved $1,500/head
• 117 bucks were sold to an average of $606/head
• 10 does were sold to an average of $1,180/head, an impressive result in anyone’s book!
